10 Home Remedies For Hair Loss

There are several types of hair loss that do not need doctor’s intervention, some hair loss issues just require the sufferer to stop doing the things that aggravate hair loss. The following ten home remedies are suggestions that you can practice at home when experiencing hair loss.

1. Vitamins and Iron

Correcting vitamin and iron deficiencies at home is relatively easy, you can eat the foods rich in these nutrients or take vitamin and iron supplements. For women whose hair loss is due to crash diets, heavy menstrual periods or physical trauma (we looked at some of those in types of hair loss) the recommended supplementation is: a high-potency multivitamin and 50 milligrams of iron, together with 1,000 milligrams of vitamin C to boost iron absorption.

2. Saw Palmetto and Aloe Vera Gel

Saw palmetto and aloe vera gel blocks the formation of dihydrotestosterone, this is the hormone that is said kills off hair follicles that leads to androgenic alopecia. The recommended dosage for saw palmetto is 160 milligrams twice a day. The suggested use for aloe vera is to apply the gel to the scalp every night before bed, and also to eat two tablespoons of aloe gel orally each day. The gel can be blended into your favorite juice.

3. Jojoba

Jojoba oil is very helpful when it comes to hair issues and especially so when it is hair loss. After cleaning the scalp, it is advised to massage jojoba oil on bald spots, or thinning areas. The oil stimulates the location and encourages hair growth.

4. Licorice Extract

Licorice contains a special chemical that prohibits testosterone from being changed to the dreaded dihydrotestosterone. Licorice extract can be added to your shampoos, hot oil treatments or added to your massage oils.

5. Rosemary and Sage

I am sure you have heard how powerful rosemary and sage are when it comes to hair loss. Rosemary (which is in quite a few hair recipes on this site)- see Homemade Hair Loss Shampoo Recipe, this herb is a virtual fix- it, it acts as a tonic and conditioner, gives luster and body to hair, stimulates growth, helps with dandruff, and brings out dark highlights in the hair. Sage similarly is great for weak damaged hair. For a daily hair massage see this recipe- Sage, Rosemary and Apple Cider Rinse with both rosemary and sage.

6. Proper Diet

Hair is made up of keratin and protein, consider eating more lean protein like eggs, fish and seafood and get a good multi-vitamin fix every day. Vitamins A, B, C and E are great healthy hair aids that you can get from fruits and vegetables.

7. Avoid Damaging Heat

Heat is damaging to hair ordinarily and when you are experiencing hair loss it is doubly so. Desist from using any form of heat on your hair when experiencing hair loss.

8. Hair loss Herbs

These herbs are notorious for helping persons who are experiencing hair loss: ginkgo biloba, green tea, seaweed extracts, nasturtium leaves. Please see List of Herbs That Are Beneficial To Hair for other suggestions.

9. Avoid Friction and Physical Damage To Hair

This is the easiest home remedy for hair loss. If you are practicing bad hair habits, the easiest thing to do is to reverse the habits and replace them with good ones. Avoid heat and heat appliances, wear a silk scarf to protect hair at nights, do not braid hair or use hair extensions especially if you have traction alopecia, do not wash hair with shampoos containing harsh chemicals, do not brush hair, comb hair gently, practice air-drying, do not use petroleum products on your hair and scalp, desist from using any type of chemical on your hair when it is falling out, do not bleach, dye or otherwise mess with the cuticle layer of your hair. In summary, give your hair a chance to grow back on its own while doing good hair practices.
